Legal Aid Services Note Note

State-funded legal services are provided by the National Legal Aid Services Organisation (NLASO) which oversees District Legal Aid Offices (DLAO). Each office is run by a District Legal Aid Officer (DLA Officer). In 2016 only 27 districts had a full-time DLA Officer. The services provided by NLASO are complemented by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the largest of which are BLAST, BRAC and Madaripur Legal Aid Association (MLAA). Government has a target of completing 25,000 mediations by 2020. These can only be conducted by DLAOs with a full-time DLA Officer. Government has another target of providing legal aid services to at least 37,000 people.
